Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that peace with Azerbaijan has already become a reality on the ground, but now it needs to be formalized legally. According to him, a sustainable peace settlement is important both for regional stability and for Armenia's European prospects.
Pashinyan said this on November 3 in an interview with Euronews at the EU enlargement summit in Brussels, answering a question about the significance of a peace agreement for Yerevan's European aspirations.
The Prime Minister noted that, in his opinion, the European Union is unlikely to be ready to accept a country that is in a state of conflict. At the same time, he emphasized that in Armenia's case there is an important positive change: peace with Azerbaijan was established following the agreements reached on August 8, 2025, in Washington.
Pashinyan pointed to the support and initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump in this process.
"The good news is that we established peace with Azerbaijan. This happened on August 8 of last year in Washington, at the White House, with the support and at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump," the Prime Minister said.
According to him, it is not just a declaration of intent, as the agreements have already led to a real change in the situation. "It was not just a declaration of peace. It turned into a reality on the ground. I mean, right now on the ground we have real peace," Pashinyan stated.
At the same time, he stressed the need to institutionally consolidate the achieved result.
"Especially considering what is happening in the world, it is now very important to institutionalize peace. The peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan was initialed by our foreign ministers in Washington. Now we need to sign the agreement and ratify it," the Prime Minister said.
Pashinyan also noted that the establishment of peace is significant for the further development of Armenia's relations with the EU.
