At the initiative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Romania, an official reception dedicated to November 8 - Victory Day was organized at the Club Diplomatic Palace in Bucharest.

As reported by the embassy, the ceremony was attended by Romanian state officials, government representatives, numerous deputies and senators, public and political figures, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in the country, figures of science and culture, heads of local media outlets, representatives of the large Turkish and Tatar communities, members of the Iranian Azerbaijani community, as well as our compatriots studying and living in Romania.

First, the national anthems of both countries were performed, and a minute of silence was observed in honor of the blessed memory of the martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov, who spoke at the event, talked about the historical significance of the 44-day Patriotic War. The ambassador stated that for nearly 30 years, Azerbaijani lands were under occupation, as a result of ethnic cleansing more than one million Azerbaijanis were expelled from their native places, occupied cities and villages were completely destroyed, and the well-known 4 UN resolutions were not implemented.

The diplomat noted that the Azerbaijani people never accepted this historical injustice, and as a result of the Patriotic War that began on September 27, 2020 and lasted 44 days, the valiant army under the leadership of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev restored the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

At the same time, speaking about the post-conflict period, the ambassador informed the participants that Karabakh is being revived day by day, large-scale construction and restoration works and international projects are being carried out in the region. The diplomat also noted that Azerbaijan's victory brought lasting peace to the region and should essentially be regarded as a common victory for the peoples of the region. Thanks to the victory, a solid foundation was created for the permanent peaceful coexistence of the peoples of the region.

The main guest of the event, Chairman of the Romanian Senate Mircea Abrudan, touched upon the significance of the date of November 8 in the history of Azerbaijan and stated that it opened a new page in the development of the South Caucasus region. He emphasized that Romania is a reliable friend and strategic partner of Azerbaijan, and the friendly relations between the two countries are based on common strategic interests and mutual trust.

M. Abrudan noted that in the current system of international relations, threats to regional and international security have increased, and in this context, the importance of respecting the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as resolving disagreements through diplomatic efforts, has grown even more. Emphasizing that the current historical moment represents the beginning of a new period of change for the South Caucasus, the Senate Chairman stated that the time has come to remember the region through the development of economic, energy, and transport projects.

Then a short video dedicated to November 8 - Victory Day was shown.

The participants of the event also viewed a photo exhibition dedicated to the Victory of the Azerbaijani people, as well as the restoration and construction works in the territories liberated from occupation and the mine problem.
