Doctor warned about the hidden harm of tea

Tea is considered one of the most harmless and beneficial drinks, however specialists are increasingly talking about its hidden risks.

As BAKU.WS reports, therapist Gayane Aramovna Atamuradova told Rambler that despite numerous benefits - its rich antioxidant composition, ability to tone and support immunity - with frequent or improper consumption, tea can negatively affect the body.

Why tea can be harmful

High caffeine content

Many are accustomed to thinking that caffeine is mainly found in coffee, but tea sometimes contains just as much. Abuse leads to irritability, insomnia, increased anxiety, rapid heartbeat, and blood pressure spikes. People with sensitive nervous systems and cardiovascular diseases should be especially careful.

Kidney overload

Drinking strong tea in large quantities gives kidneys an increased load due to the large volume of fluid and diuretic effect. This can cause swelling, discomfort in the lower back area, and exacerbation of chronic urinary system diseases.

Increased stomach acidity

Tea, especially black and green, stimulates the production of gastric juice. This leads to heartburn, pain under the ribs, and unpleasant sensations after eating. People with gastritis or reflux should limit strong brews and drink tea after meals, not on an empty stomach.

Risk of anemia

Tannins contained in tea prevent iron absorption. With regular consumption of the drink immediately after meals, signs of iron deficiency may gradually develop: weakness, dizziness, brittle hair and nails. This is especially relevant for children, pregnant women, and people with anemia.

Fluoride accumulation

Some types of tea contain increased amounts of fluoride. With excessive consumption of this substance, tooth enamel may suffer and joint pain may appear.

Sleep problems

Late tea, especially green tea, has a stimulating effect that disrupts the sleep cycle and worsens sleep quality. Even if a person falls asleep, the body does not get full rest.

Which types of tea are most risky

Strong black tea - causes blood pressure spikes, heartburn, and increases the load on the heart.

Green tea - contains a lot of caffeine, so it can increase anxiety and cause insomnia.

Pu-erh and mate - have a pronounced tonic effect, sometimes stronger than coffee.

Low-quality bagged tea - may contain pesticides, dyes, and flavorings.

How to drink tea safely

Brew moderately, not making the drink too strong.

Don't drink tea on an empty stomach to avoid irritating the stomach lining.

Limit consumption in the evening.

Take breaks between meals and tea for at least 1-2 hours for better iron absorption.

Choose quality loose leaf varieties.

Drink no more than two to three cups a day, especially for people with hypertension, anxiety, and gastrointestinal diseases.

Who needs to be especially careful

People with arrhythmia, hypertension, gastritis, heartburn, anemia, nervous disorders, pregnant women, and those who suffer from sleep disorders.

Tea remains a healthy drink, but only when consumed sensibly. The doctor reminds: anything consumed too often, too strong, or at inappropriate times can harm even the most common and safe product. For tea to bring pleasure and benefits, it's important to observe moderation and monitor your body's reaction.
