Named the best warming drinks
Black and green tea, coffee, as well as cocoa top the list of the best warming drinks for the winter period. This opinion was expressed by endocrinologist of the medical company "SberZdorovye" Margarita Belousova in a conversation with "Lenta.ru".
According to the specialist, caffeine contained in tea and coffee stimulates the body to increase heat production, but it's important to exercise moderation. "Adults are recommended to limit consumption to 400 micrograms of caffeine per day, which corresponds to approximately four cups of coffee or tea," the endocrinologist emphasized. Belousova specifically noted that people with cardiovascular diseases and sleep problems should reduce caffeine consumption and avoid strong drinks.
The endocrinologist also drew attention to the warming properties of sweet drinks. Cocoa and non-alcoholic mulled wine, thanks to the content of flavanols and spices, perfectly cope with the task of raising body temperature in cold weather. However, the doctor cautions against daily consumption of such drinks due to their high sugar content.
According to the specialist, compote or other drinks with added ginger can be an excellent option for warming up. "Gingerol and shogaol contained in ginger provide a pronounced warming effect," explained Belousova. The doctor warned that drinks with ginger are contraindicated for people with stomach ulcers, gastritis, tendency to bleeding, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women without prior consultation with a doctor.
In conclusion, the endocrinologist cautioned against consuming drinks that are too hot. According to her, scalding liquid can potentially cause the development of esophageal tumors. The optimal temperature of a drink for safe consumption should be below 60 degrees Celsius.
