The most dangerous habits that can lead to vision loss have been named
Even routine everyday actions can silently undermine your vision — from infections to serious injuries, experts warn.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Gazeta.Ru," ophthalmologist Iskander Bashirov noted that the most common problems begin with improper use of contact lenses. Sleeping in lenses and their contact with water increase the risk of inflammation and dangerous infections, including the rare Acanthamoeba keratitis. If pain or discomfort occurs, one should immediately stop wearing lenses and consult a doctor.
Equally harmful is the habit of rubbing one's eyes — this can damage the cornea and even trigger the development of keratoconus. Doctors also warn against self-medication: vasoconstrictor and steroid eye drops only mask the problem and, with prolonged use, can lead to glaucoma or cataracts.
Everyday situations also pose a danger — working with tools, chemicals, or setting off fireworks without protective glasses can result in injury. Additionally, ultraviolet radiation, smoking, and diabetes — which may show no symptoms for a long time but sharply deteriorates vision — have a negative impact.
Experts emphasize: simple hygiene, eye protection, and regular check-ups help preserve vision for many years to come.
