Doctor revealed the unexpected danger of "healthy" snacks
Nuts and dried fruits, often considered an ideal snack option, can lead to overeating and digestive problems when consumed excessively, experts warn.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Gazeta.Ru," neurogastroenterologist Andrey Simakov noted that despite the benefits of these products, their uncontrolled consumption can result in excess calories and unpleasant sensations from the gastrointestinal tract.
According to the Russian expert, the main problem is that nuts are perceived as "light" food, although in reality they are highly caloric. A small volume of the product can contain a significant amount of energy, which makes it easy for a person to exceed their daily intake without noticing it.
Simakov explained that nuts such as almonds, pistachios, and cashews, when consumed excessively, can cause heaviness and bloating. A similar situation is observed with dried fruits: due to the high concentration of sugars and dietary fiber, they can provoke increased gas formation, especially if eaten on an empty stomach or combined with nuts.
The expert emphasized that the body's reaction largely depends on individual characteristics. In people with a sensitive gut or a tendency toward irritable bowel syndrome, such snacks more often cause discomfort, especially when food is consumed quickly.
Ultimately, experts agree: nuts and dried fruits can remain part of a healthy diet if moderation is observed. However, with uncontrolled consumption throughout the day, such snacking can simultaneously lead to excess calories and digestive problems.
