The "Baku Marathon 2026" has kicked off in the capital of Azerbaijan.

As reported by BAKU.WS, 25,000 participants registered for the sporting event, organized on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and held under the slogan "Beat the Wind."

This year, alongside Azerbaijani citizens, runners from the USA, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and other countries are also competing for victory.

As in previous years, people with physical disabilities, as well as people with Down syndrome, are taking part in the competition.

Although the official start of the race was given at 10:00, a competitive atmosphere was already reigning at the Flag Square from 07:00. In the athlete zone organized here, yoga sessions and warm-up exercises were held. In the fan zone, DJs entertained participants and spectators, and various interactive games and entertainment activities were organized.

Held for the ninth time, the "Baku Marathon" is being organized for the first time at the full distance of 42 km. The race started from the State Flag Square, and participants will finish at the Sea Breeze territory along the established route.
