Payment with foreign bank cards has become available on public transport
In Azerbaijan, it is now possible to pay for public transport rides with foreign bank cards.
This was reported by the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA).
As part of the activities carried out in preparation for the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which will be held in Baku in May, contactless fare payment based on NFC technology using bank cards from foreign issuers has been introduced in public transport.
Thus, foreign citizens and tourists will now be able to use public transport with their international bank cards, without the need to purchase additional cards or local payment instruments.
Previously, payment was only possible with local bank cards supporting NFC.
In addition, Baku Metro CJSC, part of AZCON Holding, has also expanded digital payment capabilities and introduced payment with foreign bank cards.
Thanks to the NFC-based contactless payment system, passengers can quickly and conveniently pass through turnstiles using international bank cards.
It should be noted that the implementation of the NFC-based payment system in the Baku Metro began last year. During this period, a total of 31 million passengers took advantage of the NFC payment option. Currently, this method accounts for approximately 29% of all payments made in the metro.
In Baku, the transport system includes the metro, buses, railway, airport express route, taxis, and micromobility transport, providing convenient travel around the city.
According to the information, metro fares can be paid using BakıKart, mobile applications, QR tickets, as well as contactless NFC payment.
The nearest metro station to the venue of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) is "Koroghlu." The metro operates daily from 06:00 to 00:00.
For persons with disabilities, the Əlçatan Metro ("Accessible Metro") service is also available.
