A simple way to cope with mild depression without pills has been named
Caring for houseplants can be an effective way to reduce anxiety and restore emotional well-being, but experts emphasize that this method works best as a supplement to professional help.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Gazeta.Ru," clinical psychologist at the Center for Mental Health Sofia Pavlova noted that plant care can support psycho-emotional balance, especially in people experiencing chronic stress or anxiety disorders.
According to the Russian expert, such self-regulation practices — including art therapy and interaction with nature — can serve as a supplementary tool, but in cases of clinical depression, individually tailored therapy and work with a specialist play a key role.
Pavlova explains that observing plant growth helps restore interest in life during mild apathy and provides a sense of productivity. Additionally, caring for flowers promotes a "reset" after a stressful day, which is especially important for people with high mental workloads and active social interaction.
At the same time, the expert warns that this method is not suitable for everyone. In particular, patients with severe depression may lack the resources even for basic daily tasks, while perfectionists may find that excessive control only intensifies feelings of guilt.
The specialist recommends choosing low-maintenance plants that do not require complex care, spending 15–20 minutes a day or several times a week on them, and not viewing setbacks as a problem. According to her, the death of a plant is not a reason for self-criticism.
Experts emphasize that if anxiety, apathy, or a depressed state begins to interfere with daily life, it is important to seek professional help in a timely manner.
