Zidane has reached a verbal agreement to work with the French national football team
Former Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has reached a verbal agreement with the French Football Federation (FFF) on the terms of his work with the national team.
This was reported by the portal Le 10Sport.
In January, the Reuters agency, citing the FFF, reported that Didier Deschamps would leave his position as head coach of the French national team after the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the summer in Canada, the USA, and Mexico.
It is noted that the key issue in the negotiations concerns the expansion of the coaching staff. Zidane wants more assistants than Deschamps currently has. This issue is expected to be resolved in the near future.
Zidane is 53 years old, and his last place of work was Real Madrid, which he managed from 2019 to 2021, as well as from 2016 to 2018. Under his leadership, "Los Blancos" won the UEFA Champions League three times, and the Spanish league title and the Spanish Super Cup twice each.
During his playing career, Zidane played for French clubs Cannes and Bordeaux, Italian club Juventus, as well as Real Madrid, with whom he won the Spanish championship in 2003. In 2002, he scored the winning goal in the Champions League final against Germany's Bayer Leverkusen (2:1). Together with Juventus, Zidane became Italian champion twice. As a member of the French national team, he played 108 matches, scored 31 goals, and provided 29 assists, becoming a World Cup winner (1998) and runner-up (2006), as well as European champion (2000). Zidane is the recipient of the Ballon d'Or (1998).
