OpenAI will release its new artificial intelligence (AI) model o3-mini on Friday, January 31, ahead of schedule, following the success of Chinese company DeepSeek's R1 model. This is reported by Wired, citing sources.

The publication notes that o3-mini will be available for API and chatbot. Sources claim that the new AI model from OpenAI has o1-level reasoning capabilities and 4o-level speed.

The publication emphasizes that o3-mini is a "fast, cheap, smart" model designed to "crush" DeepSeek.

On January 29, it was reported that the U.S. Navy leadership banned its personnel from using the Chinese chatbot DeepSeek due to potential security concerns and ethical considerations related to the service's origin.

In just one day, the Chinese language model DeepSeek-R1 managed to become one of the world's most popular applications, causing Nvidia's stock to drop by $600 billion and becoming a competitor to ChatGPT.
