MFA: Statements of Ararat Mirzoyan are completely unfounded

The statements of the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper Folha about the alleged insufficient attention to the needs of the "Global South" and developing countries at previous COP conferences are absolutely unfounded.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this is stated in the commentary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan in response to the statements of the Armenian Foreign Minister made in the context of the COP conference.
"It is obvious that the Armenian Foreign Minister is completely unaware of the essence of climate negotiations within the COP framework.
Until now, landmark decisions in the field of combating climate change aimed at supporting the countries of the "Global South" have been adopted at all COP conferences.
In this context, the statements of the Armenian Foreign Minister represent not only a manifestation of disrespect for COP29, but also for the organizers of all previous COP conferences.
As for COP29, the Baku conference, which became a turning point in global climate diplomacy, was recognized as one of the most successful COPs both in terms of the level of organization and the final results of the negotiations.
Thus, according to the Baku Climate Finance Ambition decision adopted in Baku, the goal of annually allocating 100 billion US dollars from public sources of developed countries to finance climate actions in developing countries was increased threefold - to 300 billion US dollars. The same decision provides that the total amount of financing from all sources (public and non-state) will amount to 1.3 trillion US dollars.
In addition, COP29 went down in history as a conference that launched the carbon markets mechanism (Paris Agreement Mechanism for Credits), a decision that had not been possible to adopt for almost 10 years. Under this mechanism, the countries of the "Global South" will also be able to significantly benefit from climate financing.
The importance of COP29 for the "Global South" was also manifested in the launch of the Loss and Damage Fund, which received special attention.
These achievements, reached through the active efforts of the COP29 presidency, constitute only a small part of the successes of the Baku conference.
At the moment, the main priority for the global climate community is the implementation of COP29 decisions and preparation for the next COP conference, which will be held in the Brazilian city of Belem.
We hope that the COP in Belem will also be another step forward in climate negotiations," the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry says.
