In Paris, swimming in the Seine has been allowed after a 100-year ban

In Paris, after a 100-year ban, the Seine River has reopened for public swimming.
As the BBC noted, in 1988, then-president Jacques Chirac first promised that Parisians would be able to swim in the Seine, and since then the river has been gradually cleaned. By the Olympic Games in summer 2024, more than 1.4 billion euros were spent on cleaning. It is believed that it is thanks to these recent radical measures that the river has become suitable for swimming.
Today morning, several dozen people came early and jumped into the river as soon as it was allowed.
It is noted that three zones for public swimming have been designated in the Seine: one near the Eiffel Tower, another near Notre Dame Cathedral, and the third in the eastern part of the city.
