Arrested Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has announced his departure from the Republican People's Party (CHP), of which he had been a member for 17 years.

As reported by Haber Global, İmamoğlu himself made the announcement.

He stated that he intends to move forward on a "new path."

"I am leaving the Republican People's Party after 17 years of membership. This decision is the result of the values I believe in regarding the future of our country and the responsibility I bear toward our people," İmamoğlu stated.
