Three Ways to Beat Chronic Insomnia Without Medication Have Been Named
Sleep specialist Eric Zhou from Harvard Medical School (USA) stated that there are three scientifically proven methods that can help overcome chronic insomnia without medication. He shared his recommendations with Men's Journal.
First and foremost, Zhou advised being more active during the week. "Many people don't realize that increasing the number of steps taken by just 500 per week can significantly impact sleep. Even for those who already lead an active lifestyle, increasing physical activity can positively affect the quality of nighttime rest," the specialist explained.
Zhou also noted that many people experience insomnia because they try to force themselves to sleep longer to compensate for the lack of rest on previous nights. He emphasized that many adults need seven to nine hours of quality sleep, but there are plenty of people for whom six hours is sufficient.
The specialist's final recommendation is to try to maintain a daily routine and develop relaxing evening rituals. "Our body craves predictability, and if we provide our circadian rhythm with a healthy dose of consistency, it will become a powerful remedy for insomnia," he assured.
