Law enforcement agencies are considering the version of malicious intent as one of the possible causes of the raging forest fires in Turkey. This was stated by the President of the Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to RIA Novosti.

"With the onset of summer, Turkey has entered the most sensitive period in terms of forest fire risk. Fires are simultaneously breaking out in our forests and woodlands, especially in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions," he noted.

According to the Turkish leader, in 2025, there were 3,140 fires in the country, of which 1,332 occurred in forest areas and 1,808 in non-forest areas. Meanwhile, 720 out of 721 fires that have occurred over the past nine days have been brought under control.

Erdogan emphasized that some fires are caused by intent, others by negligence. Another portion of the fires is related to natural causes. Legal proceedings are promptly being conducted against those guilty of intent and negligence.

"I constantly receive information about fires from our ministers and governors. I am closely monitoring the progress of the work, receiving operational information from fire centers," the President of Turkey clarified.
