The Ministry issued an important warning to the public regarding WhatsApp

Cases of unauthorized access to WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business accounts have become more frequent in Azerbaijan. The National Cybersecurity Agency (NCA) has warned users about the activity of cyber fraudsters and urged them to take additional protective measures.

This was reported by the agency operating under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.

The agency emphasized that attackers can gain access to conversations through linked devices, even if the application continues to function normally on the owner's phone.

In this regard, users are advised first and foremost to check the "Linked Devices" section in WhatsApp settings and terminate all unknown sessions.

In addition, specialists urge users to activate two-step verification, set an additional PIN code, and link a reliable email address for account recovery.

The NCA reminded that verification SMS codes, device linking codes, and security PIN codes must never be shared with third parties, and users should not confirm login requests they did not initiate.

Particular caution should be exercised when receiving messages demanding urgent account confirmation, prevention of account suspension, or business profile verification. Such notifications may contain fraudulent links and QR codes designed to gain unauthorized access.

The agency also recommends updating WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business in a timely manner, installing applications exclusively from official stores, and monitoring notifications about new device connections.

Business account owners should restrict access to authorized employees only and immediately disconnect devices of employees who have left the company.

If a breach is suspected, unknown sessions should be terminated, and in case of access loss, users should re-register their number in the official application and warn their contacts about possible fraudulent messages.
