Tomorrow the first solar eclipse of this year is expected
Tomorrow, February 17, the world will witness the first solar eclipse of 2026. This impressive astronomical phenomenon will be annular.
As reported by BAKU.WS, the corresponding statement was made by specialists from the Nasreddin Tusi Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory.
According to the scientists' calculations, the celestial event will begin at 13:56 and last until 18:27, with its culmination - the maximum phase - expected at 16:12. This phenomenon will be observable from Antarctica, as well as some countries in South America and Africa.
An annular eclipse represents a special moment when the Moon passes between our planet and the Sun. However, due to the specifics of its orbit, the satellite does not completely cover the star. As a result, a bright glowing rim forms around the dark silhouette of the Moon - the famous ring of fire.
This phenomenon will not be observable from the territory of Azerbaijan. The next important event in the astronomical calendar will be a total lunar eclipse, which is predicted for March 3.
