According to official statistics, consumer market prices increased by 5.7% in the first quarter of 2026. Inflation for food products, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products was higher at 6.8%. In March, prices for these categories of goods rose by 6.5% compared to the same month in 2025.

MP Vugar Bayramov wrote about this on his Facebook social media account.

He noted that when analyzing the structure of food price increases in March, the highest inflation was recorded in the fruit and vegetable segment.

"Specifically, fruit prices rose by 3.6%, and vegetable prices by 3.2%. Overall, in March, prices increased for long-grain rice, bread, chicken, fresh fish, milk, cheese, table margarine, sunflower and corn oil, as well as a number of fruits and vegetables - lemons, oranges, tangerines, bananas, apples, pears, kiwis, walnuts, hazelnuts, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet peppers, pumpkin, carrots, and potatoes. The significant rise in fruit and vegetable prices is linked to the high share of imports for a number of products. Events in Iran last month further intensified import-driven inflation. Against the backdrop of rising global prices, expanding domestic agricultural production is becoming an increasingly priority area. Recent global and regional geopolitical tensions once again confirm that the primary way to curb price increases is to develop domestic production. This will minimize the impact of import-driven inflation and maintain stable price levels in the consumer market," V. Bayramov emphasized.
