UN Secretary-General welcomed the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels
UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed Iran's announcement of the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels for the remaining period of the ceasefire.
This was stated by the Secretary-General's official spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
"UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomes Iran's announcement of the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels. The Secretary-General considers this a step in the right direction. The position of the United Nations remains clear: we need the full restoration of international navigational rights and freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz, which must be respected by all parties," he said.
The UN Secretary-General reaffirmed full support for diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful way out of the current conflict in the Middle East. He also expressed hope that this measure, together with the ceasefire, would help build trust between the parties and strengthen the ongoing dialogue mediated by Pakistan.
