Trump: US may introduce a fee for passage through the Strait of Hormuz if Iran deal fails
American President Donald Trump stated that the United States may begin charging fees for the passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz if Washington and Tehran do not reach a final agreement.
The American leader posted this on Truth Social.
"During the 60-day ceasefire period, no fees will be charged for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, nor will they be charged after those 60 days, unless it is the United States doing so." He clarified that this is possible "if a deal is not struck" between the United States and Iran.
According to Trump, the American side may take such a step in order to obtain reimbursement "for services rendered to Middle Eastern countries" in the area of security, as well as "for costs past, present, and future."
