Trump promised to lift sanctions on Syria
US President Donald Trump announced his decision to lift sanctions imposed against Syria, arguing that it is necessary to "give it a chance." This was reported by Reuters.
Speaking at a forum in Saudi Arabia, the president noted that the previous sanctions, although "tough and paralyzing," had fulfilled their important role.
"I will order the lifting of sanctions on Syria to give it an opportunity to achieve greatness. We are removing all of them. Good luck, Syria, show us something special," the American leader urged.
On May 13, Trump arrived in Saudi Arabia for his first state visit after taking office as president.
Prior to this, the Axios portal wrote about President Trump's plans to sign a series of agreements during his visit to Arab countries, with a total value estimated at $1 trillion. According to the portal, in Saudi Arabia, the head of the White House intends to conclude arms supply contracts, as well as deals in the energy sector and mineral resource development.
