Iran's parliament warned of the risk of a US invasion

The US may attempt to launch a ground invasion of Iran from the south, west, and east after taking control of the Strait of Hormuz.

This was stated by Iranian lawmaker Abbas Papizadeh in an interview with the Isna agency.

"The scenario that America is considering is to first take control of the Strait of Hormuz from Iran, and after it manages to guarantee the transit of oil to the American market and to its allies, it will plan a ground invasion from the south, west, and east of the country and attack almost all of the country's provinces," he said.

In his opinion, Tehran must give a decisive and tough response by changing its military policy from defensive to offensive. "Time is running out, and our military sphere must strike all enemy infrastructure," the politician added.

US President Donald Trump announced on July 13 that the US would take the Strait of Hormuz under its control. Meanwhile, the day before, the naval forces of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had declared the strait closed until the US ceases its interference in the region. Later, the US announced the resumption of a naval blockade.

The US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18. Among the points of the agreement were the immediate and definitive cessation of hostilities on all fronts and the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz. However, by the end of June, the sides began exchanging strikes again.
