The US intercepted a tanker carrying Iranian oil in the Indian Ocean
The US conducted a maritime operation to intercept and inspect the vessel M/T Majestic X (sailing without a flag), which is under sanctions and was transporting oil from Iran in the Indian Ocean.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was announced by the Pentagon on the social network X.
"We will continue global maritime sanctions enforcement operations to disrupt illicit networks and intercept vessels providing material support to Iran, wherever they may be," the post states.
It was also noted that international waters cannot be used as a haven for sanctioned entities, and that American forces intend to continue restricting their freedom of action in the maritime domain.
It should be recalled that on February 28, the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran and struck a number of cities. The operation led to an escalation in the Middle East, with all Persian Gulf countries being drawn into the conflict, which also resulted in the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran, the US, and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8, 2026, which Trump later extended indefinitely.
The parties attempted to hold negotiations in Pakistan to resolve the conflict, however the first round, held on April 11-12, did not yield any results.
As pressure on Tehran, the US announced a blockade of Iranian ports and passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In turn, Iran announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz for vessels heading to Persian Gulf countries. The dynamically changing situation in the region triggered a global energy crisis.
