The United States may pay Greenland residents up to $100,000
American officials discussed the possibility of providing one-time cash payments to Greenland residents with the aim of persuading them to leave Denmark and potentially join the United States.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Reuters, according to sources, the amounts discussed ranged from 10,000 to 100,000 dollars per person. The island's population is about 57 thousand people.
It is noted that the idea was discussed at the level of American officials and was considered as one of the possible tools to influence public opinion in Greenland.
Previously, The Times reported that Donald Trump's administration could theoretically establish control over Greenland in four ways: by force (military invasion), by purchasing the island, by offering a Free Association Treaty, or by a combined option - maintaining Greenland's status as Danish territory while simultaneously expanding US military and economic presence.
