The United Nations (UN) has stated that it is closely monitoring the events taking place in Iran and expresses deep concern regarding reports of casualties amid the protests.
This was announced by the official representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, while answering journalists' questions.
According to him, the UN is closely following the development of the situation in Iran. He also expressed "serious concern" about the human casualties during the unrest. Dujarric emphasized that people anywhere in the world have the right to peaceful protest, and it is the responsibility of governments to ensure these rights.
The representative of the UN Secretary-General indicated that currently all staff members of the organization are safe. At the same time, it was noted that there are disruptions with internet and communication means in Iran, which complicates communication.
