Media learned about Trump's order to cease strikes on Iran

US President Donald Trump ordered no new strikes against Iran, thereby breaking an almost two-week series of daily attacks.

This was reported by Axios, citing two sources familiar with the American leader's decision.

According to the outlet, over the previous 13 days, Trump had daily approved strike plans, which the military carried out within several hours. On Friday, the president received a similar plan but did not give the "green light," instead ordering that no strikes be conducted.

Trump's decision, as Axios notes, reflects both his willingness to give more space for diplomacy and an acknowledgment that the current level of US strikes has reached the limit of its effectiveness.

Shortly after he issued the order, Trump told reporters at the White House that he had the option of continuing the strikes or even escalating them to "destroy everything they have." However, he indicated that he considered striking a deal with Iran a "smarter strategy."

As Axios reports, Trump's ceasefire order was given several hours after an Omani delegation arrived in Tehran for negotiations on a new agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz. Two regional sources familiar with the negotiations told the outlet that progress has been made in the talks and an agreement between Oman and Iran could be reached this weekend. President Trump will then have to decide whether to accept the proposed deal, the publication states.
