State Department: Lebanon and Israel have agreed on the implementation of the ceasefire regime
Representatives of Lebanon and Israel agreed on the implementation of a ceasefire regime following negotiations in the USA.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this is stated in a joint statement by the parties, released by the State Department press service.
According to the statement, representatives of Lebanon and Israel held negotiations in Washington on June 2-3. "As a result of U.S.-led negotiations, Israel and Lebanon agreed on the implementation of a ceasefire regime," the statement notes. According to the document, the agreements are "contingent upon a complete ceasefire by [the radical movement] Hezbollah and the withdrawal of all movement's fighters from the sector south of the Litani River."
"The parties agreed, with U.S. mediation, to soon begin the pilot creation of zones to be controlled by the Lebanese Armed Forces without the participation of any non-state forces. These steps will contribute to progress on the issue of concluding a comprehensive peace and security agreement," the statement says. The document also notes that the parties "agreed to continue engagement on political and security issues during the week [beginning] June 22 with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement," and the USA "agreed to facilitate communication between the parties during this period."
