"Turan Tovuz" suspended from European cups - REASON
FC Turan Tovuz, which finished third in the Azerbaijan Premier League in the 2025/26 season and earned a spot in the UEFA Conference League, has been banned from participating in European tournaments for the 2026/27 season by a UEFA decision.
This was stated in a club announcement.
It is noted that the UEFA Disciplinary Committee reviewed the team's compliance with the criteria established for participation in the tournament. During the proceedings, the decision of the AFFA Disciplinary Committee dated December 13, 2019, was taken as the basis.
According to that decision, in the 2019/20 season, seven players of the team, which was competing in the First Division, were banned from engaging in any football-related activities. Taking this fact into account, UEFA restricted the club's participation in competitions under its auspices for the 2026/27 season.
The club expressed its disagreement with this decision, emphasizing that the European qualification was earned on sporting merit, and announced its intention to use all legally available mechanisms to have the decision overturned.
The statement also notes that an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will be filed in the coming days regarding this matter.
At the same time, the club reported that its preparations for the European tournaments remain unchanged. According to available information, the team will assemble this month and travel to Turkey for a training camp.
