Putin spoke out about war between the US and Iran
The Russian leader called the decision by US President Donald Trump to suspend hostilities the right one and expressed hope for achieving peace in the region.
As reported by TASS, this was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
He also noted that Moscow is "in contact with Washington, Tehran, and Tel Aviv," including regarding the situation with the Bushehr nuclear power plant. "Everyone assures us that there were accidental shell impacts near the plant. Everyone assures us that it was accidental and that it will not happen again," he said. "I have no reason to believe that we are being misled," Putin emphasized.
The president promised that Russia would continue work on constructing nuclear facilities in the republic once the situation calms down. "But here too, alleviating Iran's concerns about being restricted in pursuing peaceful nuclear projects could play a certain role," he noted.
Speaking about the causes of the conflict, Putin stated that he does not see provocations from Iran's side in the conflict with the US. "It seems to me that at one point we reached an agreement, adopted the corresponding accord on the Iranian nuclear program, and everything was under IAEA control. But unfortunately, the situation then developed according to a different scenario, in a different key," he noted.
The Russian leader noted that Moscow has no data suggesting that Tehran is striving to create nuclear weapons: "Israel's concerns are well known; they are related to their perception that Iran is striving to create nuclear weapons." According to the president, Tehran has repeatedly stated, both previously and now, that it has no plans to obtain such weaponry.
