An aviation incident occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia with a Su-34 frontline bomber that was performing a scheduled training flight.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this was announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The incident happened today around 1:00 PM Moscow time (2:00 PM Baku time - ed.). Thanks to the professional actions of the pilots, human casualties were avoided.

According to information provided by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the cause of the accident was a technical malfunction in the landing gear system. "When approaching for landing, there was a failure in the deployment system of one of the landing gear struts. The crew made several attempts to fix the malfunction during the flight, but the situation did not change," the military department reported.

Following the instructions of the flight director, the pilots made the only correct decision in the situation - they directed the aircraft to a safe zone where there were no populated areas and successfully ejected. This decision helped avoid potentially more serious consequences.

A search and rescue team promptly flew to the crash site to evacuate the crew members to their home airfield. "According to information from the site, both crew members are alive. The flight was performed without ammunition. The plane crashed in an uninhabited area. There is no destruction on the ground," the Ministry of Defense emphasized.

A special commission of the Russian Aerospace Forces has been sent to the crash site to investigate all the circumstances of the incident and will conduct a thorough investigation.

It is worth noting that the Su-34 is a modern Russian multifunctional fighter-bomber, adopted for service in 2014. The aircraft is designed to deliver high-precision strikes against enemy ground targets in any weather conditions and at any time of day. The machine is capable of speeds up to 2,200 km/h and has a flight range of up to 7,000 km.
