What makes May strawberries dangerous?
This is interesting 10

Juicy, aromatic, and bright red - the first strawberries are tempting, but are they really safe? Associate Professor of the Department of Hospital Pediatrics No. 2 at the Pirogov Medical University of the Russian Ministry of Health, Olga Tarasova, explained why early berries might contain antibiotics, nitrates, and pesticides, and how this affects health.

To obtain an early harvest, producers often use greenhouses, growth stimulants, and chemical preparations. As a result, strawberries lose their benefits and can become a source of danger:

  1. Chemical treatment for storage
If berries maintain freshness for more than a couple of days - this is a sign of preservatives. They extend shelf life but are harmful to health.

  2. Antibiotics in composition
Some samples contain tetracycline. Regular consumption of such berries can cause antibiotic resistance, allergies, and reduce treatment effectiveness.

  3. Excess nitrates
Accumulation of nitrates in the body can cause hypoxia - oxygen starvation of tissues, especially dangerous for children and the elderly.

  4. Pesticides
They can cause acute poisoning, neurological disorders, nausea, insomnia, and even loss of consciousness.

  5. Saltpeter
Used to accelerate growth, it can cause dizziness, allergies, and nausea.

  6. Nitrofen
A pest control agent, dangerous for allergy sufferers: can cause itching, redness of eyes, and skin reactions.

  7. Anti-mold agents
Used to extend shelf life, but can cause allergies, digestive disorders, and accumulation of toxins.

How to protect yourself:

  • Wash berries thoroughly.

  • Remove sepals and stems.

  • Don't overindulge in early berries.

  • Buy products only from trusted sellers with certificates.

The ideal time to buy strawberries is from June to July. It is during the peak season that berries are maximally safe and rich in vitamins.
