In British schools, girls have been banned from wearing skirts due to gender equality

In a number of British schools, an unexpected innovation comes into force on September 1 - a complete ban on wearing skirts. Educational institutions refer to fresh recommendations from the UK Ministry of Education, according to which school uniforms should become more accessible for families. According to officials, abandoning skirts will help reduce the financial burden on parents, as well as promote gender equality, reports the Daily Express.

The Northern Education Trust, a network of schools in northeastern England, has already officially announced the introduction of a ban on girls wearing skirts.

However, most parents have met this initiative with indignation. They emphasize that the law does not prohibit wearing skirts, but only provides recommendations to educational institutions.

"Many girls prefer to wear skirts to express their gender identity. This is outrageous misogyny," the publication quotes one of the outraged mothers.

In response to the wave of discontent, the Ministry of Education issued a clarification that "schools are limiting the number of branded items to reduce the financial burden on parents," while educational institutions have the right to decide for themselves whether to follow these recommendations or not.

Parents point to the paradox of the situation: now they will have to order several pairs of custom-made trousers for their daughters, which is unlikely to reduce the cost of school uniforms.

The Ministry, in turn, insists on the advantages of the innovation: "The transition to trousers for all students promotes equality, making all students feel comfortable <...>. Trousers are also more practical for active learning and movement throughout the school day."
