Media warned about an impending catastrophe in the USA

Global warming is making storms in the US increasingly destructive, CNN reports citing a new study. Scientists analyzed data on northeastern storms from 1940 to 2025 and came to alarming conclusions.
Using cyclone tracking algorithms, they studied 900 storms and recorded that the maximum wind speed in the most powerful of them increased by 6%. According to climatologist Michael Mann from the University of Pennsylvania, this means a 20% increase in destructive power.
There is also a 10% increase in precipitation, which increases the risk of floods - the consequences of which are already being felt in different regions of the country.
Researchers warn that the US may face a new "storm of the century" in the near future. The last such natural disaster occurred in March 1993 - then wind speeds reached 100 miles per hour (about 45 m/s), and the disaster claimed the lives of 200 people.
