The doctor debunked the myth that honey heals
Honey does not have unique beneficial properties, and when heated, it can break down into compounds with potentially carcinogenic effects, Russian expert Andrey Kondrakhin stated.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Gazeta.Ru, the specialist noted that it is not recommended to add honey to hot tea, as high temperatures destroy its beneficial components.
According to the doctor, there is evidence that when strongly heated, honey breaks down into substances with carcinogenic potential. Although this doesn't mean a direct link to cancer development, such processes can make a certain contribution. Additionally, most vitamins are destroyed when heated, and the product essentially contains only sugar, predominantly fructose.
The expert also urged people with diabetes to consume honey with caution. At the same time, he emphasized that sugar is necessary for the body in reasonable amounts, especially in the first half of the day.
Kondrakhin explained that it's important to control the total amount of sugar consumed. During active physical exercise, it is used by the muscles rather than being stored in the body.
The specialist added that the opinion about honey's special healing properties is a myth. According to him, this product should be perceived exclusively as a source of nutrition, not as a medicinal remedy.
In conclusion, the doctor noted that bees use honey as an energy source for survival during the winter period. Historically, honey also remained the only available type of sugar for humans for a long time.
