Doctor named food-champions in iron content levels
To prevent iron deficiency anemia, it is important to include beef and pork liver, seafood, legumes, as well as rose hips and persimmons in your diet, said Elena Shafranskaya, an endocrinologist at the Atribeaute clinic.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Gazeta.Ru", with iron deficiency anemia, blood carries oxygen less effectively, which over time leads to drowsiness, weakness, and deterioration of general well-being. According to the specialist, one of the most common causes of iron deficiency in women of reproductive age is heavy menstruation.
The doctor noted that in other patients, iron deficiency is often associated with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract that interfere with the normal absorption of the microelement, as well as with previous surgeries, including partial stomach removal.
According to the endocrinologist, iron levels largely depend on diet. For example, avoiding animal protein can lead to deficiency, since iron from plant foods is absorbed three to five times worse than from red meat.
The specialist emphasized that with strict veganism, it is necessary to combine plant sources of iron - legumes, spinach, and buckwheat - with foods rich in vitamin C, which improves its absorption.
The expert added that pork and beef liver, beef tongue, turkey, chicken, pork, veal, fish, and shrimp are the champions in iron content. Grains, legumes, and tomatoes, as well as rose hips, strawberries, pomegranates, persimmons, and apples are suitable as plant sources.
