# Were citizens of Azerbaijan affected in Iran? - OFFICIALLY
No new information has been received about Azerbaijani citizens affected in Iran.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in response to a request from Oxu.Az.
As a reminder, on February 28, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the country's Defense Forces had launched a preemptive strike against Iran. The operation was named "Lion's Roar." Both countries closed their airspace. Later, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States was also participating in the military operation against Iran. According to the Pentagon, the US operation against Iran was named "Epic Fury." Iran, in turn, launched dozens of ballistic missiles at Israel. The IDF confirmed the launches, sirens are sounding across the country, and air defense systems are operating.
Iran also struck American bases across the Middle East — in Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. Iran named its operation "True Promise 4."
On March 1, it was confirmed that Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed during the attacks.
