The death toll from the strike on a school in southern Iran has risen to 40 female students

During joint Israeli and US strikes on targets in Iran on February 28, 2026, a girls' elementary school in the city of Minab in Hormozgan Province in the south of the country was hit.

According to the IRNA agency, 40 people were killed and 48 were injured.

According to initial reports from the Iranian state agency IRNA, the strike hit the school building directly, resulting in the deaths of five students. The ISNA agency reported that the school building was completely destroyed and dozens of students were trapped under the rubble.

Later, the Iranian agency Fars (as well as Tasnim and local authorities of Hormozgan Province) updated the information: the number of schoolgirls killed rose to 24. According to the provincial governor and official sources, the victims were girls aged 7 to 12. Several other students were injured, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.

Additionally, according to Iranian media, one student was killed as a result of strikes on another school in the city of Abyek (in northern Iran).
