Former senator and businessman Umar Dzhabrailov was found in critical condition during the night by security guards at the elite residential complex "Vesper Tverskaya" in Moscow. A pistol was lying next to him.

As reported by BAKU.WS, he was taken to the hospital around three o'clock in the morning. Attempts were made to resuscitate him, but they were unsuccessful.

Law enforcement officials told TASS that financial problems may have been the cause of Dzhabrailov's suicide.

The day before his death, the businessman posted a video address to tourists in the Middle East against the backdrop of the escalating conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. He wished travelers to "avoid misfortune."

Dzhabrailov was born in Grozny in 1958. In 1997, he became a top manager of the "Plaza" group of companies, which managed the "Okhotny Ryad" and "Smolensky Passage" shopping centers, the "Kuntsevo" residential complex, the "Rossiya" hotel, and other properties.

He was considered one of the most prominent figures of Moscow's social scene in the 1990s and 2000s.

In 2004, Umar Dzhabrailov became a senator representing Chechnya, a position he held until 2009.

In 2017, a hooliganism case was opened against him after he fired shots into the air from a ceremonial pistol in a hotel. The court imposed a fine of half a million rubles. Dzhabrailov expressed remorse for the crime.

In April 2020, the businessman attempted to take his own life. He was hospitalized at the Sklifosovsky Research Institute, where he received the necessary medical care.

In December 2025, Dzhabrailov admitted that he had suffered from a severe addiction for 15 years, which caused him to lose his multibillion-dollar fortune and friends.

According to information from the Telegram channel Baza, Dzhabrailov also appeared in the files of American financier and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The businessman himself confirmed that he was friends with Epstein's associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted of recruiting minors for scandalous sex parties.
