Two universities will be created in Azerbaijan

The Cabinet of Ministers' report for 2024 reflects that two new universities are planned to be established in Azerbaijan.

It is noted that the requirements for granting research university status were approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 610 dated December 29, 2017. Currently, work is underway to update these requirements based on international experience. According to the "Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022-2026," approved by Presidential Decree No. 3378 dated July 22, 2022, by 2026 it is planned to establish two research universities based on existing higher education institutions.

The main objectives are to organize interaction between research institutes and higher education institutions, jointly identify existing problems and ways to solve them, improve universities' international ranking indicators, and transform them into research centers. In this direction, memoranda of understanding have already been signed between several scientific and higher education institutions.
