Behind-the-Scenes Reasons and Goals: Why Has the Hürjet Still Not Joined the Azerbaijan Air Force Fleet?
Some time ago, during the official visit of Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to our country, Prague offered Baku new-generation training aircraft for the Air Force.
This initiative generated significant interest in the expert community. Discussions immediately began in the press about possible options for replacing the outdated L-39 Albatros combat training aircraft produced by the former Czechoslovakia, which are still on the balance sheet of the Azerbaijan Air Force. However, almost simultaneously, another event occurred that prompted a different perspective on the process.
Turkey and Spain signed an agreement concerning the supply of Turkish Hürjet training aircraft to the European market and even the prospects for their joint production. Against this backdrop, a logical question arises: if Azerbaijan truly needs new-generation training aviation, why is Baku considering offers from the Czech Republic rather than purchasing equipment from brotherly Turkey? Why has the aircraft that a European state is paying such close attention to not yet been ordered by Azerbaijan? And have any negotiations on this matter been held at all?
In the new episode of the program "Military Chronicle" on Baku TV, experts analyze these questions in detail, revealing behind-the-scenes geopolitical reasons, technical nuances, and Baku's long-term defense plans.
