# Dangerous bacteria found in Nestle baby food: Has this product been imported to Azerbaijan?
The recall of certain Nestle products intended for infants and young children for preventive purposes has once again raised the question of baby food safety.
In a number of European countries, including Finland, Germany, and the United Kingdom, certain batches of products manufactured under various brands of this company have been withdrawn from circulation. The reason for the recall was the risk of product contamination with the toxin Cereulide, which is produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus during the production process.
This incident has once again raised questions about the safety and control mechanisms of baby food sold on the Azerbaijani market. According to nutrition expert Mehseti Huseynova, the toxin Cereulide can cause poisoning, damage to the central nervous system, and disruptions in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.
She added that with a weakened immune system, this can lead to serious complications in children: "Even if the packaging indicates a long shelf life, after opening, the product must be used within a short time. If stickiness or foreign odor is observed during food preparation, and the child experiences bloating, pain, or restlessness after consumption, it is recommended to stop using such a product."
As stated by the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan (FSAA), the batches of baby food recalled by Nestle were not imported into our country: "As a precautionary measure, samples were taken for research from other batches of products on sale in the territory of Azerbaijan. Based on a notification received by the FSAA through the European Union's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) about the detection of the contaminant Cereulide in baby food of the Swissneo 1 brand, manufactured by Hochdorf Swiss Nutrition Ltd and imported into our country from Switzerland, inspections were immediately initiated, and the entry of this batch of products into circulation was prevented."
