The West announced Trump's plans to introduce new tariffs

US President Donald Trump is pushing European Union countries to increase tariffs on imports from China. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The publication reports that the tariff increase is presented as a condition for concluding a trade agreement between the EU and Washington.
It is noted that China remains an important market for EU exports, and the bloc is not interested in a trade war with Beijing.
The US also wants Japan and South Korea to impose similar tariffs on Chinese goods.
On April 2, Trump introduced a new import tariff system for 185 countries. The base rate was 10% on all imported goods, while for some countries it was significantly higher - 34% for China, 46% for Vietnam, and 20% for the European Union.
On May 6, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič announced at a European Parliament session that the United States had imposed tariffs on 70% of the European Union's exports worth €380 billion per year, despite statements about a "freeze."
