Counselor of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom sent a letter to the editors of The Guardian

The Guardian newspaper published a response letter from Gunel Salimova, Counsellor of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom, addressed to the editorial board of the publication in connection with a biased article.

This was reported by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The letter notes that, contrary to the author's opinion, the relevant film contains a chauvinistic stance and does not reflect the existing reality. It is also emphasized that when covering the former conflict, it is necessary to take into account the tragedies experienced by the Azerbaijani people, the humanitarian and social consequences of the occupation, as well as the ongoing mine threat.

The letter also notes that the cause of the former conflict was Armenia's occupation of Azerbaijani territories, and in 2020 Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity.

It is emphasized that significant progress has been achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia towards establishing a lasting peace, and at the latest meetings of the leaders of the two countries, concrete results in the sphere of peace and normalization of relations were already discussed. In this regard, the restoration of trade ties between the two countries, border delimitation, and the discussion of regional connectivity projects are noted.

It is emphasized that the Azerbaijani side advocates for attention to be focused not on the disagreements arising from the former conflict, but on the positive results achieved towards strengthening peace, cooperation, and mutual trust in the region.
