Pezeshkian stated that Trump has no right to deprive Iran of its right to nuclear development
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that American leader Donald Trump has no right to deprive Tehran of its right to nuclear development.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, the Iranian president's words are cited by the local news agency Tasnim.
"The US President declares that Iran should not enjoy the rights to nuclear development, yet does not answer the question 'for what crime?' Who is he to deprive a nation of its legitimate rights? From the standpoint of humanitarian principles, every free person, regardless of religion, denomination, race, and ethnicity, must possess their natural rights. We also demand that all nations be treated on the basis of justice and equality within the international system," Pezeshkian said, speaking at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
He also drew attention to the inaction of international organizations amid the crisis in the Middle East.
"In the face of these actions, organizations that claim to defend human rights, and even structures such as the UN, remain dormant, inactive, and only occasionally limit themselves to expressing concern, whereas such reactions are insufficient," the Iranian president added.
It should be recalled that on February 28, the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran and carried out airstrikes on a number of cities. On the same day, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of the strikes. In response, Iran launched missile strikes on Israeli territory and attacked American military bases in Persian Gulf countries.
Iran, the US, and their allies reached a two-week ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8, 2026.
On April 11-12, negotiations between Iran and the US, mediated by Pakistan, took place in Islamabad, but they proved fruitless.
US President Donald Trump announced on April 15 the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, despite the continued naval blockade of Iranian ports. This step was taken to preserve relations with China. Later, on April 18, the Naval Forces of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the closure of the waterway, citing violations of the ceasefire agreement and the continued blockade of Iranian ports by the American military.
