Iran announced possible strikes against some countries in the region
Tehran has warned a number of countries in the region amid ongoing U.S. strikes on Iran and announced possible retaliatory attacks.
As reported by BAKU.WS, the corresponding statement was published on his X page by the official spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei.
According to him, the commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), Brad Cooper, had earlier stated that a number of member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan participated in the military strikes against Iran.
"If this U.S. claim is a lie, then these countries are obligated to officially deny it. In light of these circumstances, Iran will exercise its inherent and legitimate right to self-defense by striking American military bases and facilities located on the territory of these states; questions about 'Iran's motives' are nothing but an attempt to distort logic and mislead," Baghaei stated.
He emphasized that the provision by these countries of their territories as a staging ground to facilitate American attacks, according to UN General Assembly Resolution No. 3314, makes them accomplices, and also constitutes a gross violation of the principle of good neighborliness and Article 2 of the UN Charter.
It should be noted that the Gulf Cooperation Council includes six countries — Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman.
The U.S. and Israel launched an operation against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the U.S. resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the terms of the agreements reached regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
