Iran announced its withdrawal from the cooperation agreement with the IAEA
Tehran has officially terminated the agreement reached in Cairo, Egypt, in September on the conditions for the resumption of IAEA experts' activities in Iran.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Mehr agency, this was announced on Thursday by the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Abbas Araghchi.
"Today, in an official letter to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, we declared that the agreement is invalid," he said.
According to the minister, the agreement concluded in Cairo began to lose its force after the "E3" (United Kingdom, Germany, and France) launched a "rapid response mechanism," which allowed the resumption of UN sanctions on September 28, which were suspended under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) of 2015.
Earlier on Thursday, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution calling on Iran to expand cooperation with the agency and provide information about its enriched uranium stockpiles. The resolution was introduced by France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States.
