Hundreds of tourists caught in a snowstorm rescued near Everest
In China, hundreds of tourists who were caught in a snowstorm in the Karma Valley, leading to the eastern slope of Everest, have been rescued. This was reported by The Guardian.
The blizzard blocked about a thousand people in camping sites at an altitude of around 4200 meters. Thanks to the efforts of rescuers and local residents, 350 tourists were evacuated from the snow trap. They are now in the nearest town of Qudang, while several hundred more people continue their journey there. About 200 people still remain on the slope of Everest, with whom communication has been established.
According to data from October 5, the blizzard began the day before, on Saturday, October 4. Due to the natural disaster, visibility was reduced to less than one meter, and snow covered the tents and key sections of the route. The rescue operation was complicated by strong winds.
