Earth is threatened by a new magnetic storm

A coronal mass ejection has occurred on the Sun, causing Earth to expect a new magnetic storm.

As BAKU.WS reports, this was announced by the British Geological Survey.

According to scientists, our planet is still affected by a coronal hole on the Sun, which maintains an elevated level of geomagnetic activity. During October 31, as well as November 1 and 2, another high-speed solar wind stream is expected, which increases the probability of new activity surges.

In addition, on October 29, another coronal mass ejection was recorded on the Sun. According to preliminary data, it may lead to a glancing blow to Earth in the coming days, however, calculations are still being refined.

In recent months, the Sun has been showing a notable increase in activity - with an increasing number of spots, flares, and coronal ejections. Scientists remind that after the minimum of 2008, when the Sun was in its calmest state in the history of observations, activity began to gradually increase.

Since 2008, the speed of the solar wind has increased by 6%, its density by 26%, temperature by 29%, and the strength of the interplanetary magnetic field by 31%. The increase in solar activity means more geomagnetic storms, bright auroras, and potential risks for satellites and space missions. Meanwhile, the exact causes of such an "awakening" of the Sun remain unknown.
