The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan summoned the ambassadors of the Netherlands and Belgium: a protest was expressed to the diplomats
Azerbaijan expressed a sharp protest to Belgium and the Netherlands over anti-Azerbaijani documents adopted by the parliaments of these countries, affecting the country's sovereignty and the peace process with Armenia.
As reported by BAKU.WS, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the ambassadors of the Kingdom of Belgium and the Kingdom of the Netherlands - Julien de Fraipont and Marian de Jong - were separately summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meetings, the Azerbaijani side expressed a strong protest regarding the documents adopted by the parliaments of Belgium and the Netherlands on April 16, 2026, which, as noted, are aimed at undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, as well as the ongoing peace process between Baku and Yerevan.
"These documents are based on entirely false and unfounded assessments and demonstrate a deeply rooted anti-Azerbaijani bias in these institutions. The claims contained therein constitute a gross violation of international law norms and interference in the rule of law," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The Azerbaijani side also firmly rejected unreliable references regarding the country's sovereign territories, accusations of violating the territorial integrity of Armenia, and claims of allegedly unlawful arrests of persons of Armenian origin.
"Paradoxically, the adoption of these documents coincided with the latest meeting of the parliamentary speakers of Azerbaijan and Armenia," the ministry emphasized.
The Belgian and Dutch sides were urged to take effective measures to prevent the actions of anti-Azerbaijani groups in their parliaments that could damage bilateral relations.
